Novel Bending Test Method for Polymer Railway Sleeper Materials

Alternative sleeper technologies have been developed to address the significant need for replacement of deteriorating timber railway sleepers. The review literature indicates that sleepers might fail while in service, despite passing evaluation tests current composite standards which indicated these do not represent situ on ballast. In this research, a new five-point bending test is evaluate flexural behaviour supported by Due simplicity, acceptance level accuracy and lack in-service alternative sleepers, testing method justified with according Beam Elastic Foundation theory. Three technologies—plastic, synthetic composites low-profile prestressed concrete addition sleepers—were tested under service loading condition suitability method. To differences due their different modulus elasticities, most appropriate material middle support was also determined.
